feeling bright

casual summer dress

I completely took advantage of the warm temperatures last week and was loving feeling bright in all my summer clothes. I even have some burnt shoulders to prove it (oops!). Although the past couple of days have been a bit of a downer weather wise… let me remind you that the temperature is only going to go back up!

Lately I have been feeling very casual when it comes to styling outfits and comfort is always on my mind. I have many dresses in my wardrobe that I have worn for more formal occasions which then end up remaining there until the next formal occasion. Thinking about this, I inspired myself to style some of these dresses for a more casual setting.

I paired this bright and floral summer dress from Winners with a plain t-shirt along these lace up Oxford’s from Zara to create a funky yet casual vibe. I felt that adding the plain shirt under the tank dress immediately dressed the outfit down. Also, pairing the look with a flat shoe versus a heel was what perfected the outfit.

What do you all think about dressing down dresses? Do you struggle to repurpose dresses after wearing them once?

Drop me a message!  I’d love to hear from you 🙂

healthy breakfast cookies

healthy breakfast cookie

Lately I have been a little more busy than usual. For those reading who are close to me know that I try to live my day-to-day life as health conscious as possible but always make exceptions when it comes to chocolate. When my days get busier I find it easier to miss out on breakfast, which I do not like to do. We all know that it’s the most important meal of the day.

I began to think about ways I could prepare myself to assure that I didn’t forget breakfast and wasn’t just grabbing a banana and going. Breakfast cookies came to mind when thinking about all the things I normally would like to eat in the morning.

I had tried a couple of recipes for breakfast cookies but this time I wanted to try it on my own with the ingredients I had.  The end result was super delicious and it solved my breakfast issue. Although I know it’s still not the most balanced breakfast, it is better than grabbing a fruit and a coffee and starting your day.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 c brown sugar
  • 1/3 c yogurt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 3/4 c flour
  • 1 c oats
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/3 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/3 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1/3 cup raisins

How to:

Preheat over to 350 degrees and cover a large cookie tray with parchment paper. I

n a medium sized bowl mash up the banana. Add in the egg and brown sugar and mix until everything has come together smoothly. Add in the following 4 ingredients and mix, assuring the chia seeds are covered in the moist mixture.

In another bowl mix together your flour, oats, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add your dry ingredients together until everything is combined. Add in your seeds and dried fruit.

Place about a table spoon of cookie dough onto your prepared cookie sheet and bake in the oven for around 10-12 minutes. Remove and let cool.

** I made these at the beginning of the week and take two each morning. Made 16 cookies to enjoy.

like a boss

business casual look

There’s something about a good pair of fancy pants. You know, the ones that you put on and automatically make you feel 10 times more professional? For me, when I put on my fancy pants I immediately feel like a boss- ready to tackle that day.

I personally believe that it’s better to over dress than under dress and always dress the part. Even in a more casual work environment where there is no need for a complete suit and heals, I find myself feeling more alert and ready to get things accomplished that day if I am dressing the part- wearing my fancy pants.

For those reading that work in a casual atmosphere and are not sure how comfortable they are with dressing more formally for work, do not stress- I promise it is simple. When stressing, think of the words mix and match. What I mean by this is mix a casual piece with a more formal piece. I dressed down my fancy pants with a casual white t-shirt along with some more edgy heals. Another suggestion is pairing a dress with lace up flats like these or a trendier pair of sneakers like these.

being bold

statement pants

The fashion world is big and for many it can often be overwhelming to take it all in. It is always changing and often forcing you to evolve within your personal style. With that said I think it can still be easy to play it safe and stick to what you know. Only taking small risks with trends that are well known and considered “cool”. I personally have always enjoyed playing around with my personal style; wearing things just a little differently than everyone else. The more I became interested in fashion the more I realized that being bold with certain outfits or just a single piece in an outfit can be super fun and thrilling.

I purchased these pants because I really loved the flow of the overall structure of them. Being oversized and super comfortable was also an added bonus. The only moment of question I had when considering the purchase of these pants was in regards to the overall pattern. Was it too bold? How would I style them in a way that would allow me to remain feeling myself? All questioning a side I decided to make the purchase knowing that I would find a way, knowing that it would be good to be a little bold.

Getting out of your comfort zone to explore your own personal style within this big world of fashion may be crazy to think about but I recommend giving it a try if you are curious. Even if it’s testing out a current trend that has caught your eye; you’ll never know until you try it. You know I always tell you to make your own rules and have fun, so go out and do it! The other tip of advice I can give to you is to feel confident no matter what. No one is going to question you if you look like you feel confident in what you are wearing, even if it’s a little bold.

flower power

For those of you who have read my past post on 70’s inspired fashion trends know that I am currently obsessed with the retro style. I consider my personal style quite feminine and believe that many 70’s fashion trends show case many designs that accent a women’s figure in all the right ways; free-flowing silhouettes and blouses to show off a neck line are only a few of my favourites.

I picked up this blouse from Marshall’s and it was love at first sight. I immediately fell in love with the flowing shape and bell sleeves and I knew right then it was going to be a staple in my Spring/ Summer wardrobe for sure. It total gives off retro vibes with a subtle modern mix.

I paired the blouse casually with ripped jeans and neutral wedges for a take on a simple yet chic weekend wear look. I have also envisioned styling the blouse with many other Spring/ Summer bottoms I have in my wardrobe such as patterned Capris and linen pants. Let me know if you’d like to see any of these suggested looks!

nautical vibes

“If you love something set it free, if it comes back it’s meant to be”- my mother

This is a quote that will probably be in my brain forever. It is such a simple message that remains so true. Although normally when my mother spoke these wise words to me they were in regards to providing advice about conflicts with a friend or someone I was dating at the time, today I am going to relate it to my love of shopping.

Do you ever see something in a store and talk yourself out of buying it to then later regret it? This isn’t something that happens to me so often; if I walk away from a purchase I’ve usually accepted it by the time I’m out of the store. I recently made one exception when pondering over this nautical inspired button down. I wasn’t sure if I should buy it because I knew I wouldn’t be able to wear it until the weather was a lot warmer. When I buy something I wanna wear it right away.

While trying to decide if I should buy the button down or not I thought of the wise words of my mother and put the blouse down. After leaving the store and arriving home I kept thinking of all the different ways I would style the button down, leading me to decide that I must go back to buy it. When I arrived back to the store just a few days later, they unfortunately were sold out and wouldn’t receive any others because it was on sale. I figured that I set it free and it just wasn’t meant to be.

A few weeks down the road I was visiting Quebec City and I stopped in at the store that sold the button down that I loved oh so much. To my great surprise, it was there, still on sale and in my size. I thought to myself once again of the wise words from my mama, picked up the button down and headed to the cash. It was meant to be.

~ The End ~
